I heard from the folks at Volvo today. A good reminder that this fine car company is not just in the safety business, but the inspiration biz, as well.
In fact, long before I launched this site, Volvo started the Volvo For LIfe Awards. They really put their pedal to the medal when it comes to honoring amazing people.
Here's how it works. First of all, they want to hear from you. Who do you consider to be a hero? They have four big categories: Safety, Quality of Life, and Enviroment cover the adults. Then, one amazing young person will win The Alexandra Scott Butterfly Award.
The first three categories bring a grand prize of $100,000! The Butterfly Award gets $25,000. All the prize money is sent to the charity of the winner's choice.
This is win-win-win-win all the way around. Volvo gives you a voice to define what a hero is and who you think that special person should be. The benefits are obvious for the winners.
For me, I get the tip on the wonderful winners and Volvo shares the beautifully produced profiles with me to share with you on this site.
In fact, you'll find some of last year's winners already posted on DarynKagan.com.
Check out Eli Kahn's story over in my Kids Bucket. Eli is a teenager and cancer survivor who runs a big campaign to recycle printer ink cartridges.
You'll also find this year's Butterfly Award Winner, Samita Mohonasundarum.
And you'll find a heart-warming story of two best friends over in the Love Bucket.
Volvo wants to hear from you by October 15th. The winners are announced in early January.
Good luck to all the heroes in your life!
